Anti-staticStatic Control for Moulded Packaging Material ApplicationsPlastics are typically very poor conductors of electricity, making them ideal for electrical insulation. Thermoplastic polymers such as ARPRO® EPP have a surface resistivity measuring from 1012 to 1016 ohms per square, which is characteristic of a poor conductor of electrical charge. For some applications, this surface resistivity can result in the build up of a static electrical charge, which under certain circumstances can result in the discharge of a static spark. Applications where static sparks can be hazardous include:
The solution is "anti-stat" material, also referred to as ESD (electro static discharge) packaging foam, or static dissipative foam. ARPRO® Anti-Static is used for moulding and fabricating packaging materials used for sensitive electronic equipment and other products where static discharge is undesirable. ARPRO® Anti-Static contains additives that reduce surface resistivity to a range from 109 to 1012 Ω/surf, and promote rapid static decay to protect against sparking. In addition to electrical shock protection from static discharge, the material is unaffected by the treatment. ARPRO® Anti-Static maintains its ability to provide a high degree of vibration dampening and energy absorption, multiple impact resistance, thermal insulation, water / oil / chemical resistance, lightweight and moulding to precise shape. JSP can produce anti-static ARPRO® foam products along a scale of surface resistivity. Please contact us to discuss your specific requirements. |
